The feeling of Sri Lanka…

Sri Lanka…hmmm…have you ever traveled to a place and thought: this is the place I would like to live for the rest of my life? I am sure you have, we all have. I mean, each time I went to Greece I had that feeling. But then after going back home it dies out and we are left with wonderful memories and the desire to go back one day…. But, then, the world is full of wonderful places and our life, incredibly short…. well, in my case, this time the feeling did not die out…this call I had to Sri Lanka from the first time I visited it stayed with me, it haunted me in a positive way to a point where I just had to come. When I left Dubai to move here, people told me I was crazy…they may have been right, but then, all great things were done by crazy people, isn’t it? Why did I come? I came for a feeling…

I am writing this not trying to convince you to come to this beautiful island, but hoping that you will. Why? That is up to you…whenever people ask me what is there to do? I always say everything. I could write hours about history and culture and wildlife and food and beaches and zillion star hotels and so on so on. I prefer not to, at least not this time. After all, you all have internet, right? We live in an era when everything is at hand, so I will not take your time repeating an information you can find in so many different sources. But, yes, I will answer whatever questions you throw my way the best I know how toJ

What I would like you to experience with us in Sri Lanka apart from sceneries and elephants, and all that is widely advertised, is a feeling of belonging here even for a few days. I would like you to allow yourselves to come as insiders, to be part of the life of the islanders, try out food from street joints, ride in 3rd class train wagons, most of all, talk to the people, abandon yourselves to this place. Come with open minds and open hearts and let Sri Lanka in. I promise you will not regret it. The thing about traveling is not necessarily where you go, but how you go, how you travel. Archeological sites are great; a stone can take you back in time carried by your imagination. The sea can tell you stories if you know how to listen…but the true treasure of it all and the common denominator is people. Where I come from, they say that people sanctify the place and the way people make you feel here is why I think you should really visit Sri Lanka…. I will not tell you how and what that feeling will be, that is something you should discover on your own and tell me at the end of your journey if I was crazy to move here…

I think for a first entry, I bore you enough smile until we meet again, safe travels….
